'Global Warming and Health' topic of Health Conference keynote presentation

Global warming is responsible for the rise in asthma, West Nile virus and infectious disease, according to Harvard's Paul Epstein, M.D., M.P.H., who will deliver the keynote speech "Global Warming and Health" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at ISU. His free, public presentation in the Salmon River Suite of the Pond Student Union Building is part of the twentieth annual Idaho Conference on Health Care at ISU Oct.

ISU, Idaho Food Bank to host Eastern Idaho Hunger Summit Oct. 19

As Laura Vailas, Ph.D., travels through Idaho speaking on hunger in the state, she has noticed that many lack knowledge of this fundamental problem. "When I go out and speak to people about hunger in southeast Idaho, they are usually shocked to hear how much hunger exists in their own backyard," said Vailas.

International Night festivities on tap Oct. 20 in PSUB

ISU releases 2007 Jeanne Clery Act crime statistics report

ISU is still a relatively safe place to live and participate in higher education, according to the recently release 2007 Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics. The report showed a 40 percent drop in forcible sex offenses, a 72 percent rise in alcohol citations, and a 53 percent drop in traffic accidents in 2006 as compared to 2005 statistics.

Immigrants overwhelming city services in Windsor, Ontario

WINDSOR, Ontario - A sudden influx of illegal immigrants into Windsor is straining the city's social safety net, costing taxpayers an estimated $200,000 so far, and forcing the mayor to ask for help from the Canadian government. Over the past three weeks, 220 undocumented immigrants - mostly from Mexico - have driven from their homes in the United States to Detroit and crossed the border into Windsor to seek refugee status.
