The Hispanic Awareness Leadership Organization is having a tamale fundraiser sale. Preorder your desired amount with any of the following HALO members: Juan Hernandez (589-6087); Georgina Gallegos (680-2238); Elysia Lora (680-5011). The cost is $10 per dozen or $1 per tamale. Orders will be taken from Oct. 15 through Oct. 26. Delivery of tamales will be in the PSUB on Oct. 29. HALO will also have tamales for individual sale on the Oct. 29 as well.
Peter Matthiessen will present "A Naturalist's Impressions of the Wildman" Fri., Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Goranson Hall, located in the Fine Arts Building. Matthiessen is an author, naturalist, explorer, Zen priest, and living legend. He has published more than thirty books of fiction and nonfiction over fifty years. He writes about vanishing cultures, oppressed peoples, exotic wildlife and landscapes. From the high valleys of the Himalayas to the forests of the Pacific and Intermountain West, he shares the lore and enigma of the Wildman, the legendary Yeti and Sasquatch. A question and answer period and Book signing will follow. Admission is free to students with a valid ID, $2 for faculty, and $3 for the public.
The Students Community Service Center (SCSC), in conjunction with the Red Cross, will be holding a fall blood drive Tues., Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Wed., Oct. 31 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Wood River room of the Pond Student Union Building. To make an appointment, contact the SCSC at 282-3494. Appointments are made for every 15 minutes, and each appointment will only take about an hour. One in two people will need blood in their lifetime, meaning the life saved by donating could be that of your best friend or family member. For questions about donation eligibility, call the Red Cross Donor Health Department at 249-5865 or 1-800-274-4024.
C. W. Hog will be holding a HALO3 tournament fundraiser in the Bengal Theater "On the Big Screen" Sat., Oct. 20. To sign up, go to the Outdoor Adventure Center located on the first floor of the SUB. The cost is $10 per player, and the tournament will be between two player teams with one alternate per team. For more information call 282-3912.
