The road trip to Portland State and Sacramento State had ups and downs this past weekend for the ISU soccer team. The Bengal soccer team lost their first conference game to Portland State 1-0, but were able to bounce back, in an a thriller of a game with a respectable and even more dynamic double overtime, tie against Sacramento State.
ISU lost their first conference game of the year against Portland State 1-0 on Friday in Portland Oregon. ISU was unable to sneak one past goalkeeper Cris Lewis as she picked up three saves during the shutout. ISU did outshoot the Vikings 11-6. The Vikings scored the only goal of the game late in the first half as Krysta Whiteaker managed to slip one past ISU goalkeeper Maren Eves. Although ISU has not allowed more than one goal in the last seven games, one was just enough for Portland State to get the win at home.
Jana Boehler commented on the game, "we dominated the game, we just couldn't get the ball in the net, they had one lucky one and that was all it took, but I think we outplayed them." Teammate Lauren Hough also commented on the loss, "We played really well, we just had one let down, which turned out to be really disappointing.
ISU only had one day to rest before their next conference game with Sacramento State, "We're just going to practice, get mentally prepared and put yesterday behind us, we just want to get the loss out of our heads, we'll remember it but we just want to move on" said Lauren Hough. Jana Boehler added, "We know that Sac state is the team to beat, we know we're right there with them too. We're not scared, we're ready to play, and we just want to get back to the way we play our game."
On Sunday in Sacramento the Bengals did get back into their game against the Sacramento State Hornets. In a rematch of last year's Big Sky Conference title game ISU and Sac State played their third consecutive overtime game against each other. The game in ended in a 1-1 double overtime game. ISU has four ties this season, which ironically 'ties' the school record.
