The Bengals volleyball team had a busy week last week playing three games in just six days at Reed Gym. The last two games were close, but despite some personal records from a few of the players, ISU came up short against Eastern Washington and Portland State University.

Last Thursday night they battled EWU and lost 3-1 (31-29, 20-30, 26-30, 30-32). Although ISU out hit PSU three out of the four games, they lost 3-1 Saturday night at Reed Gym.

The match against EWU started off well as the Bengals fought for the lead with five lead changes. The final decision was finally made when Britta Bartschi slammed the ball for a kill and gave the Bengals the two point lead that they needed to win 31-29.

Freshman Bartschi finished as one of the top hitters of the team with a career high of 18 kills. This is the third consecutive match in a row that she set a new career high.

The second and third games were controlled by the Eagles as they outscored the Bengals. Finishing the match was another close game when the score stood at 29-29.

Hayley Hills from EWU missed her serve and gave the Bengals the advantage 30-29. The Eagles scored the next three points and ended the match 32-30.

Christine Van Orden finished the game as one of her best of the year. She came up one kill shy of a triple-double with a game high of 51 assists, 13 digs, and 9 kills.

Charlee Kinghorn exerted herself for a well rounded effort and impressively tallied 16 kills on 44 attacks with an attack percentage of .295. Kinghorn also led the Bengal team in digs with 19.

Hayley Hills scored a double-double for the Eagles with 15 digs and 21 kills. Mandy Daniels led the game in digs with 22. Ashley Hamilton tallied a total of 43 assists for her team.

Saturday just hours after the Bengal football team defeated the Vikings with a huge win, the volleyball teams battled each other. The ISU team almost played a repeat from Thursday night's game and fell to PSU 3-1 (30-28, 29-31, 22-30, 25-30).

ISU now falls 5-17 overall and 1-9 in Big Sky play while PSU improved to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

The first game ended in ISU's favor with a good effort from Emily Waldron and Blakely Peppinger. The second game ended close, but the Bengals weren't able to scrounge up enough points to defeat the Vikings and fell 29-31. PSU commanded the second and third games to finish the match 3-1.

Sarah Carson hit an outstanding attack percentage at .552 with 17 kills and one error on 29 attacks.

Blakely Peppinger pitched out 31 assists and teammate Christine Van Orden followed close behind with 28 of her own. Waldron picked up a double double with a team high of 18 digs and 12 kills. Kolay Mickelson played well off the bench and hit nine kills while commiting no errors.

On the Viking's side, Marija Vojnovic scored high with 19 kills and 17 total digs. Dominique Fradella also made a double-double with a game high of 58 assists and 11 digs. ISU tallied 74 total team digs while PSU nabbed 69; but the Vikings scored more kills (69) then the Bengals who hit 67.

The Bengals now play a pair of matches on the road. They first make a stop in Ogden, Utah to face Weber State on Friday, October 26. They will then head up Utah Valley the next day for a non-conference game.
