It was another historic week at Holt Arena, unfortunately for the Bengals, it wasn't all for them as they fell to Cal Poly 48 - 28.

Josh Barnett set another career rushing record this week with his 14th 100 yard rushing performance. This gives him sole possession of the school record for 100 yard games, now one game ahead of Alfredo Anderson. He needs only 177 yards to set the all-time school rushing record. The other historic numbers didn't go the Bengals' way either.

Ramses Barden had 10 receptions for 268 yards and three touchdowns, setting the record for yards and tying the record for touchdowns by a receiver in Holt Arena history.

One week after facing the number one passing offense in the nation, the Bengals faced the number two overall offense in the nation. Cal-Poly's offense didn't disappoint, living up to the hype and then some.

The Mustang quarterback, Jonathan Dalley, rushed for 119 yards and threw for 453 yards for a total of 572 yards of offense. As lopsided as these numbers sound, ISU was in position to mount a monumental comeback.

ISU trailed at the half 34 - 14 and gave up a 79 yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second half. Trailing 41 - 14 with 14:41 to play in the 3rd quarter, the Bengals could have easily packed it in, but they didn't.

ISU strung together some stops and two touchdowns to cut the lead to 41 - 28. The Bengals were mounting a drive and had taken the ball down to the four yard line. Then as Ken Cornist was on his way into the endzone to cut the lead even further, he was met at the goal-line and was forced to fumble. Cal - Poly recovered and marched 99.5 yards to score and effectively end the game with a 48 - 28 lead and 1:44 to play.

It was another frustrating game for the Bengals, but it was a game where the Bengals showed exactly where this team is heading. ISU never gave up and were just one fumble from mounting a monumental comeback. ISU has developed a strong character during coach Zamberlin's first season in Pocatello. There is a noticeable toughness in these Bengals thats been present a while.

The Bengals will need to be tough and a strong defense to step up next week against Weber State. The Bengals travel to Ogden, where they haven't won since 1984.

Weber State is coming off a victory against Portland State where they scored 73 points in regulation and racked up 1,008 (not a typo) all-purpose yards. On the plus side, Weber did give up 68 points.

Idaho State has been surprisingly resiliant this year, and this might be the year we break the streak. Game time is 1:35 p.m. and Ogden is less than two hours away, so join the fun in Ogden Saturday and we'll cheer the Bengals to a victory that has been a long time coming.
