Road woes continue for volleyball team

The trip to Utah was not kind to Idaho State's women's volleyball team. The Bengal team fell to both Utah Valley and Weber State Oct. 26th and 27.
The volleyball team has dropped into a four-game deficit as they prepare for their road game against Sacramento State on Nov. 3.
On Friday night, the Weber State Wildcats scratched out the Bengals in a short 3-0 (19-30, 21-30, 28-30) match to quickly decide the fate.
The Bengals put up a huge fight the third game after letting WSU fly into an early lead in the first two games. In the first two games there were only four lead changes in the early stages of each game. There were five lead changes in the third game; but the effort was not strong enough and the Wildcats beat out the Bengals.
Britta Bartschi held a great individual performance for the Bengals as she tallied 13 kills for the Bengals. Even more impressive was her overall hit percentage at .458.
Teammate Blakely Peppinger's strong point of the game was assists. She tallied 20 in the night's game. Emily Waldron manned the defensive drive with 14 digs for the Bengal side.
The Wildcats were led by an good offensive match by Leah Burmeister. She crushed 12 kills on only 17 attacks while committing no errors hitting a .706. She also led both teams in blocks with a total of five.
Caitlyn Anderson contributed 23 digs to the defensive side for the Wildcats.
After the game at Weber State the Bengals traveled to Orem, Utah, to take on the Utah Valley Wolverines. This was the last nonconference match for the Bengals, and the Wolverines home-court advantage played in their favor.
A strong individual charge on offense came from the Bengal's Kolay Mickelson. She led ISU in kills and recorded a career high with a 12 kill effort. Her offensive game wasn't the only strong point though as she chipped in four defensive blocks for the Bengals.
Teammate Ashlyn McDowell also tallied four total blocks as well as contributing eight kills. Her game kill total matched her season-high effort. Emily Waldron racked up double digits in digs with 10.
On the Wolverine side, Kayli Broadbent damaged the Bengals with 15 kills. Teammates Terin Ledall and Jessica Endres each contributed 12 kills to their team.
On the Wolverine's defensive side, Allyce Wilson tallied a total of 18 digs.
The Bengals team totaled 42 kills with only 16 errors for a percentage of .218. The Wolverines totaled 54 kills with 17 mistakes and a hitting percentage of .306.
ISU's record dropped to 5-19 overall, while Utah Valley improved its record to 17-8.
Idaho State will return to conference play with a road match against Sacramento State.
After their final road trip of the season, the Bengals will return home for their final two home matches of the season when they host Northern Colorado on Nov. 8 and Northern Arizona on Nov. 10.
