ISU left Davis Field to head up to play Eastern Washington University on Sunday. EWU had a 6-8-0 overall record and was 1-4-0 in the Big Sky play. A win against EWU would have likely given ISU a place in the Big Sky tournament.
A win was what ISU needed, but not what they got on Sunday in Cheney, Wash. ISU was unable to bring home a win.
EWU'sMorgan O'Friel got one past ISU keeper Eves, scoring the only goal for EWU on a pass from Jocelyn Bement, which was just enough to defeat ISU 1-0.
ISU once again out-shot their opponent on Sunday, 14-9, as well as obtaining more corners, 8-1. ISU struggled to put one past the goalkeeper once again. In the last six conference games ISU has only been able to score twice.
The loss to EWU was a serious blow to ISU's chances of making the Big Sky tournament. ISU must have a lot of things fall into place in order for them to qualify for the tournament.
First, ISU needs Montana to either beat or tie EWU this Friday in Missoula. Next, ISU must defeat Weber State at Davis Field when they play Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at Davis Field. ISU also needs to see a tie between Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado. All of these things must fall into place or they will not qualify.
Sacramento State, Weber State, and Portland State have all found their place in the tournament. Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado and ISU all have a shot still for the fourth spot in the Big Sky tournament. Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington will not qualify for the tournament.
