Pocatello - Senior Idaho State University student Jeff Wolfley designed the winning logo in a competition sponsored by the Idaho Academy of Science. The mass communication major is generously donating his $200 prize money to the ISU chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

The logo features the organization's name, acronym and colors with symbols representing chemistry, biology and physics. It succinctly captures the essence of the organization and meets publicity requirements for simplicity and reproducibility. It will be used on all major correspondence and communication vehicles including the IAS website, the peer-reviewed "Journal of the Idaho Academy of Science" and the IAS newsletter "The Retort."

The IAS seeks to improve the effectiveness of science education in Idaho, and to promote public understanding and appreciation of the sciences and applied technology in the modern world. It embraces all scientific disciplines and has provided advisory services to the Governor and to government agencies. The IAS annually presents a Distinguished Scientist/Science Communicator Award and conducts scholarship and visiting scientist programs.

Wolfley was honored last year with top prize in an Idaho State Lottery competition in which the ISU Department of Mass Communication regularly participates. His IAS prize money will help Advertising Federation students fund next spring's travel to Portland, Ore. to participate in the annual National Student Advertising Competition.

Wolfley is a senior working on a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication with an emphasis in advertising/public relations. He is from Wyoming and worked in advertising and publishing for many years before returning to college.
