Cross Country teams finish season

The end of the cross country season opens a whole new chapter for the running athletes as they will start training for track and field season ,which starts the beginning of January. Last weekend both the women's and men's team were honored to compete in the NCAA Mountain Regionals. The womens cross country team finished in 17th place with 447 points and the men finished 14th with 326 points.

The race started early in the morning in Ogden, Utah at the Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course. Saheed Kahn, a senior for ISU, raced into 25th place out of 105 runners in the ten kilometer race. He finished in 31:19.1, just 1:22 seconds behind the winner.

John Ricardi took 47th for the Bengals with a time of 32:17.5. Taylor Hansen captured 72nd place and finished in 33:17.2. Other members of the team included Tysun Rickards who finished 93, Branden Teeter (102), and Zach Barrett (103).

Zach Barrett commented about the meet, "Overall we looked amazing. We work hard on the off season, on season, and mid season." The University of Colorado stole the number one spot on the men's side with finishers in the 2, 4, 15, 17, and 18 spots. Out of our conference, Lopez Lamong of Northern Arizona won the race with a time of 29:54.5.

The top finisher for the Bengals on the women's team was freshman Erica Wendt, who captured 62nd place out of 118 runners with a time of 22:43.5. The women ran a six kilometer race. Gemma Maini crossed the line in 69th place with a time of 22:55.7. Other runners on the Bengal's team included Kerynn Davis (107th), Haiden Siepert (112th), and Candida Butler (118th).

Colorado State won regionals for the women with finishers in the 5, 15, 16, 19, and 20 spots. Sally Kipyego from Texas Tech captured the first place finish with a time of 19:29.4.

The cross country had some outstanding performances this year starting with the first meet of the season in the beginning of October. ISU's men and women's team swept the meet in the dual against Westminster and Albertson colleges. ISU finished in the 1, 2, 4, and 5 places with Saheed Kahn with the first place victory. Gemma Maini also took the first place victory with teammates finishing in the 3, 6, and 8 place spots.
