The ISU women's soccer season was filled with excitement, suspense, and thrilling games. Although ISU was unable to qualify for the Big Sky tournament, there was still much to be talked about after the season ended.
ISU started the season in late August in an exhibition match against Utah Valley State, winning 3-1. Perhaps some of the most exciting games came during the 2007 Governor's Cup when ISU faced off against the two other top schools in the state. ISU defeated Boise State 5-2 and followed that win up with a shutout victory against the University of Idaho 2-0.
ISU proved once again that the Governor's Cup belongs in the city of Pocatello. ISU's next tournament win would come in the Idaho State Classic where ISU would also emerge victorious, after defeating big name schools such as San Jose State 2-1 and then soaring over the physical play of Air Force 1-0.
ISU's next win came in Southern Utah against the Thunderbirds as it appeared that ISU was simply at the shooting range practicing, as they went on to destroy SUU 7-1. ISU followed up the wins later in the season with two big wins against Big Sky rivals Montana and Weber State. ISU defeated Montana at home 1-0. Finally ISU went out in style with shutout victory over Weber State at Davis field 2-0 to finish their season.
ISU did not win as many games as they would have liked, but they also did not lose very many games, tying the school record for fewest losses in a season.
The Bengals played in six games this year that ended in a tie, a school record. Of those six ties ISU played in five double overtime games and two overtime games. Three of those overtime games were against regionally and nationally ranked teams. ISU went undefeated at home for the first time in school history. So, the season was, at the very least, exciting to watch.
Individually, ISU was deservedly honored with four All-Big Sky team selections. Midfielders Chelsea Cox, Kilee Quigley were selected to the first team. Forward Natalie Graham and defender Jill Christofferson were selected to the second team. ISU also had freshman Lauren Hough, leading scorer Jana Boehler, and goalkeeper Maren Eves selected in the category of honorable mention. Just recently, Annamarie Hofstetter was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Team. Hofstetter also led the team in assists.
