The planned program is filled with traditional Chinese attire and dancing, including the famous Lion dance. Part of the night's celebrations will include instrumental performances showcasing a violin solo along with several traditional instruments with the performing of the waist drum. Vocal solos and chorus events will provide a fantastic cross-cultural opportunity.
The evening's entertainment will not only offer music, but the beauty of the Chinese language as well. While the event is an excellent chance to enjoy the celebration of the Chinese New Year, which officially will begin Feb. 7, as the Year of the Rat, by missing this event, one would be deprived of chance to learn about some of the rich tradition and history associated with this holiday.
Included with the event will be a catered meal with a complete spread of select dishes including: Tang Dynasty style beef With fresh potato, palace chicken, traditional Chinese style oyster sauce with broccoli, lemon spiced salt fragrant roast chicken, signature Han Dynasty style sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour spring rolls, top soup Yang-Zhou delight fried rice, steamed rice and of course the fortune cookie.
The amount of food is planned for about 800 people, so be sure to come ready to enjoy a culinary experience as rich as the culture that is being showcased this evening.
The cost for the event is $7 for ISU students and faculty, $8 for the general public, and $4 for children ages 5-10.
