Women and Work Conference
The eighth annual Women and Work Conference sponsored by the ISU Center for New Directions will be Wed., March 5 in the ISU Pond Student Union Building. The Conference offers a range of informational events to demonstrate opportunities in trades and technology careers for women of all ages.
Conference registration and continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m. and conference programming begins at 8:30 a.m. with a keynote address by Amy Mercy, plant manager at the Great Western Malting Company. Conference participants will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on career exploration and hear from inspirational women currently working in nontraditional occupations, those in which 25 percent or less of the workforce are one's gender.
Workshops will offer information on employment in the trades as electricians, painters, pipe fitters; employment in Public Works; crime scene and forensic science; self-promotion; and the "Monster Under the Bed: Math."
The conference fee is $18 for the general public and $8.50 for students. This fee includes a continental breakfast and luncheon. Registration is due by Friday, Feb. 29.

2008 Outstanding Student Achievement Award Nominations
ISU's deans, faculty, and staff are invited to join the Alumni Association and the ISU Ambassadors the nomination process for this year's Outstanding Student Achievement Awards continues.
Each year, the Alumni Association and the ISU Ambassadors seek to recognize ISU's outstanding students. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2007-2008 school year.
The deadline for submitting nominations is Thurs., Jan. 31 by 5 p.m.
Nomination forms can be downloaded on-line at the following Web address:

The Outstanding Student Achievement Awards, sponsored by the ISU Alumni Association and the ISU Student Ambassadors, recognizes student excellence, dedication to academic and professional goals, and community involvement. One student is recognized for each college with the exception of the College of Arts and Sciences, which gives three. Awards also are given to an outstanding Master's candidate and an outstanding Doctoral candidate. Eleven runners-up are also recognized.
