Huge games ahead for ISU Women

After moving into first place this week, the Idaho State Women's Basketball team is entering a particularly critical stretch of games over the next two weeks. First they will host the Portland State Vikings on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym, followed by Eastern Washington on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Reed Gym, and then games at Montana and Montana State on Feb. 21 and 23.
On an off day in mid-January, the Bengals lost to Portland State by 40 points on the road in one of their worst losses in recent memory. In an interview with KISU's Jerry Miller after Saturday's win over Northern Colorado, Coach Newlee made no bones about his desire to see the stands full this Thursday night. "Hopefully the town of Pocatello knows we have a big game coming on Thursday... We have some unfinished business with Portland State."
Since the loss to Portland State on Jan. 12, however, Idaho State has won five out of their last six games, including a sweep of the Montana teams in hard fought games at home. After the victory at Northern Colorado last Saturday, combined with Montana's loss to Montana State, the Bengals are now in a tie for first place with Montana at 7-2, while Portland State and Montana State are one game behind at 6-3. The next two weeks will go a long way toward determining who will emerge on top in the Big Sky Conference.
The Bengals, who have played six of their first nine conference games on the road, will now close the season with five of their seven games at home. Fan support has been a factor this season in both of the Montana wins and Idaho State, having been on the road for three weeks, would like to see a sea of orange and black, and perhaps a bit of pink, in the stands for their homecoming on Thursday and Saturday. In support of breast cancer awareness, those fans who wear pink to the game can get tickets for $2. (Of course, students get in free with Bengal ID.)
Thursday night is Valentine's Day, so show your love by bringing your sweetheart to the game and getting your hearts pumping and lungs screaming for the Bengals.
