The 2008 Associated Students of ISU general elections will be held on March 18 and 19, and will include some important changes to the campaign structure. Those interested in running for an elected position will be able to seek student club endorsements this year, according to Election Board Chair Tyler Kendall.

"The Election Board is really excited about the ability of candidates to seek endorsements from clubs," Kendall said. "It will be a unique opportunity for candidates."

Kendall said that the purpose of allowing endorsements this year was to hopefully increase student participation in both the campaigning and voting portions of the elections. Other campuses allow endorsements under similar rules as this, he said, and have seen varying success in increase student participation.

"Our hope is that it'll give students more of a voice when they go to the polls," Kendall said.

The Election Board has encouraged any interested students to run for student government. The biggest reason students should run, Kendall said, was because of the impact they can have on student life.

"The experience of being in student government is another reason to get involved," Kendal said, "not to mention the stipends."

Potential candidates are required to attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, March 5, at 5 p.m. in the Wood River Room of the PSUB.

Elected positions Include: President and Vice President (combined ticket); Idaho Falls Vice President; Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences (six seats); Senator for the College of Health Professions (three Seats); Senator for the College of Technology (three seats); Senator for the College of Business (two Seats); Senator for the College of Education (two Seats), Senator for the College of Graduate Studies (two Seats); Senator for the College of Engineering (one Seat); and Senator for the College of Pharmacy (one Seat).

To qualify, candidates must be members of the Association in good standing. Candidates must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
