marks the opening of the eighth annual National Women's Art Exhibit. The reception and awards announcements begin at 7 p.m. in the Transition Gallery in the Pond Student Union. Come see this remarkable show of art made exclusively by women from across the nation and right here at home. The show runs through March 22 and will be officially concluded with the Silent Auction held in the Rendezvous
Center on March 29.
The National Women's Art exhibit is an invitational only show. The committee sends out 600 calls for submissions and the submissions are sent before a jury that decides which pieces are worthy of exhibition.
This year's exhibit features many worthy contestants. The show is a phantasmagoria of images and sculptures created in every sort of medium-metal is represented, as well as paintings and photos. There are pieces of jewelry to drool over and whimsical items created from baskets and threads.
The Mind's Eye Gallery has outdone itself with this presentation and I will tell you why: some of the items are for sale. That's means you don't have to gaze with covetous eyes upon pieces of art, you can place a bid and take the item home.
If you are a college student who is expecting a little kick back from Uncle Sam and you have been wondering what sort of nice thing you can do for yourself, I have a suggestion: invest in a piece of art. Someday you will be elderly and you can gaze into your piece and think, "I bought this piece while I was a starving college student, it was worth every dime."
