The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho is hosting its first annual River Rocks Plein Air Paint-Out June 19 through 21. The event will bring artists from across the country to Idaho Falls for a lively competition of outdoor painting with the top prize being $1,000. The River Rocks art competition is open to artists working in any painting and drawing media.
Artists will paint their choices of designated areas, including waterfront vistas, waterfowl along the river, costumed models, and unique downtown architecture. Maps of the designated areas, along with a list of participating artists, will be available to the artists and the public.
Saturday, June 21, from 2-6 p.m. the selected paintings will be on exhibit and offered for sale. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m. at an exclusive River Rocks Party at the Snake River Landing where the art will be available until 9 p.m.
The River Rocks registration fee of $45 includes two and a half days of plein air painting, a ticket for the Artist Get Acquainted breakfast on Thursday morning, a painting apron, a water bottle, and a ticket for the Saturday River Rocks Party where the awards and final exhibition will take place.
Anyone interested can pick up a prospectus at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho (at 300 S. Capital Avenue, Idaho Falls) or can download one at www.theartmuseum.org.
The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended evening hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m. For more information, call 524-7777.
