Cassie Merkley captures three first place finishes

The Idaho State track and field team had an extraordinary second day at the All-Idaho Collegiate Cup at Bronco Stadium. Ten Bengals- seven women and three men-ended the final day of competition with first place victories.
Junior Cassie Merkley finished the day with three victories. She took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.10 attaining the fifth best All-Time Top-Ten Performances record; her third top-ten record. Merkley also took first place with a time of 1:02.58 in the 400-meter hurdles as well as in the javelin throw with a distance of 138-07.00.
Erin Bell, a senior, finished in first place with a height of 5-04.25 in the high jump while Sydney Wendt jumped a distance of 37-09.50 for first in the triple jump. The Idaho State 'A' 4x400-meter relay team took first in their event with a time of 4:01.52.
Freshman Sergio Jones captured two second place finishes when he ran a 10.70 in the 100-meter dash and a 21.54 in the 200-meter dash. Darin Williams, junior, finished first with a time of 49.96 in the 400-meter dash. Zac Barrett finished well in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.69 for second place.
In the 2008 Indoor Heptathlon Champion, Brad Silvester took second place with a time of 15.84 in the 110-meter hurdles. Junior Jacob Keller jumped a height of 6-02.75 in the high jump for first place, while Sam Pierson vaulted a height of 15-07.00 for a first place finish.
The Bengals' next competition is the Wildcat Invitational April 12th in Ogden, Utah.
