I was one of about 250 students who set their priorities and studies aside last Tuesday, April 8, to attend the ISU Idol contest held at Frazier Auditorium. An all-female music group from Los Angeles called Raining Jane was a featured band that played throughout the evening. To be honest, they were one of the only highlights for the evening.

The ten contestants who consistently missed notes and pitch changes that caused unnecessary embarrassment took their turns on stage. There were numerous occasions I felt like judge Simon Cowell enduring the opening day contestants from Fox's big hit American Idol.

Princess Young, a Mountain Home High School graduate and business major at ISU, sang "For You I Will" by Monica. Young displayed an impressive vocal range. She was by far the most impressive contestant in my eyes, but the audience thought otherwise.

Michael Watson was this year's ISU Idol winner. Watson was the last contestant in the competition and was only one of two men who participated. He sang Prince's "Kiss" in a peculiar falsetto voice. The audience demonstrated great enjoyment through clapping and screaming, while others actually danced. I failed to recognize the appeal.
