Issue date: 4/16/08 Section: Sports
Kaylie Neal has been on the ISU softball team since it was established two years ago. Though it has been tough to try to establish a new team, this small town farm girl loves softball and enjoys spending time with the team.
Bengal: Where did you grow up?
Neal: I grew up in Stone, Idaho and went to high school in Malad
Bengal: How long have you played softball?
Neal: I've been on traveling teams since I was eight. I used to throw the ball with my mom when I was three. My mom played college ball in Dillon, Montana and coached my traveling team for a few years.
Bengal: Why did you choose softball at ISU?
Neal: I played a year at Utah Valley then I transferred here. I wanted to be closer to family. Bengal: What are you going to school for?
Neal: I'm going into Health Education and I'll be done in the spring of 2009.
Bengal: What do you plan to do after you graduate?
Neal: I want to go back to school for dental assisting or dental hygiene. It is too tough to do right now with the softball schedule.
Bengal: What other activities and sports have you been involved in?
Neal: I played basketball and volleyball. In high school I was a peer mediator. I had to go into meetings with other students that were having disputes and help solve their problems. I was also involved in the Spanish club.
Bengal: What is your personal goal for the team?
Neal: I want to be positive even though it is tough being involved in a beginning program.
Bengal: What is the team's overall goal?
Neal: Never give up and always be aggressive. We need to play our hardest no matter what.
Bengal: Do you have any heroes?
Neal: My dad. No matter how bad the circumstances, he is always positive and willing to help others.
Bengal: How do you get along with the team?
Neal: We have fun together on trips. We're not all best friends, but most of us get along pretty well Bengal: What do you do for fun?
