Adam Emfield, a student at Idaho State University, took part in the American Psychological Association's Summer Science Fellowship Program this summer. The SSF places students in the labs of psychological scientists in the Washington, D.C. area for a six-week intensive research experience. Only 12 students were selected from a pool of more than 500 applicants from colleges and universities in the United States. All of them will be college seniors in the coming academic year.
"We were hoping to arrange exactly this type of research experience for our students and are pleased that it is working well," said Virginia E. Holt, Assistant Executive Director for Science of the APA Science Directorate, the office that sponsors the program. "The summer before the senior year is an especially good time for students who are interested in psychological science to have a significant exposure to research. Thanks to the faculty members who are working directly with these students, we can make this happen."
