2008 Woodie Awards
The Idaho State Symphony will perform their first concert of the school year on Friday, Oct. 3. The performance will also mark the debut for Dr. Chung Park, the newly hired conductor of the orchestra. Much has been written about Dr. Park. In a review of one of his concerts, the Palm Beach Post wrote, "His interpretation had a satisfying shape, above all; it had a sense of narrative and arrival particularly important in this music, which falls apart under less scrupulous hands.

This is the process of four ISU graduate students and alumni who have just published A Cappella Zoo, a new literary magazine dealing with the genre of "magical realism" (which will be explained a bit later).
Remember the film School of Rock? More specifically, remember Jack Black in the film? Mr. Black caused a stir, with both the public and the critics, as Dewey Finn. Finn was a middle-aged guy who was crashing at his best friend's place, mostly because his rock band wasn't making any money for him.
Time for a Short Recess, Counselor ... ZAP! Two heavily intoxicated lawyers were arrested after driving the wrong way through a restaurant drive-through in Warr Acres, Okla., and nearly hitting another car. When confronted by police, the driver first pretended to be a sheriff's deputy, then became belligerent, then spit in the officer's face.

Spotlight feature: The movie, Stop-Loss, will play Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6 & 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Bengal Theater. Stop-Loss stars Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum and Abbie Cornish in a stirring, controversial and poignant look at the struggles soldiers face when called back to serve extra tours of duty in Iraq.

A master violin class with Corey Cerovsek will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Jensen Concert Hall at the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Cerovsek will be working with three violin students during the class and the public is invited to attend.
